The following hospitals will partner with Kinney Drugs to support the program:  Central Vermont Medical Center, Copley Hospital, Fletcher Allen Health Center – The Diabetes Research Center, Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, Northwestern Medical Center, and Porter Hospital.  In addition, Dr. Richard E. Pratley from Fletcher Allen’s Diabetes Research Center will be on site at the Shelburne Road Kinney Drugs from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. to answer any questions patients may have.

“We are very grateful for the relationship we have with our local community health agencies, said Penny Perrone-Gray, Marketing Manager for Kinney Drugs.”  Combined with their expertise in the diabetes field and our pharmacists’ medication knowledge, the program will be very informational to those who may be at risk of developing diabetes.”

The program will run at all Kinney Drug stores in Vermont from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23rd.  For more information please call your local Kinney Drugs.

Diabetes is a serious disease that strikes nearly 24 million children and adults in the United States.  An additional 57 million or one in five Americans have pre-diabetes, which puts them at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes.  Diabetes is named the “silent killer” because nearly one-fourth of those with the disease – 5.7 million – do not know they have it.  For many, diagnosis may come seven to ten years after the onset of the disease.  Therefore, early diagnosis is critical to successful treatment and delaying or preventing some of its complications such as heart disease, blindness, kidney disease, stroke, amputation, and death.
