Kinney Drugs to Open Pharmacy inside Nojaim's in SyracuseKinney Drugs, a leading health care organization in New York and Vermont, will open a new Kinney Pharmacy this fall inside the Nojaim Bros. Supermarkets store at the corner of Gifford and West Streets in Syracuse, N.Y.

The pharmacy will offer free prescription delivery Monday through Friday. Kinney also plans to offer free health screenings, clinics and nutritional programs to help improve and maintain the health of residents living on the Near West Side of Syracuse.

The pharmacy will open for business Sept. 30 with a grand opening scheduled for Nov. 1. It will be open seven days a week (Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.).

"The Kinney Pharmacy at Nojaim's will improve access to prescriptions and health care on the Near West Side of Syracuse," said Bridget-ann Hart, President and COO of Kinney Drugs. "Kinney Drugs is an employee-owned company and we are proud to join the Near West Side community."

Near West Side residents will have access to the KinneyCare Discount Prescription Plan, a program designed by Kinney Drugs to make prescription medications more affordable to people without insurance or those who have insufficient insurance. The plan offers more than 350 generic prescriptions at $11.99 for a 90-day supply, or less than 14 cents per day.

In addition, Kinney Pharmacy will distribute the Onondaga County Prescription Discount Card to any resident of the county, regardless of age. The discount card is accepted at more than 100 pharmacies in Onondaga County and at more than 57,000 pharmacies nationwide. Cards can be obtained at any participating pharmacy and used immediately. The program is administered by ProAct, a subsidiary of Kinney Drugs Inc. ProAct is a pharmacy benefit management company headquartered in New York State.

Since the program began in November 2007, Onondaga County residents have used the discount card to fill more than 110,000 prescriptions saving an average of $25.97 for a total savings of $2.9 million. Program participants typically save an average of 10 to 20 percent on brand name drugs and 20 to 70 percent on generic drugs.

The combination of a grocery store and a pharmacy will give the community a powerful team to address health disparities."

The new pharmacy is one of three Kinney pharmacies that are not located within a Kinney Drugs store. The other pharmacies are located at the Syracuse Community Health Center, 819 S. Salina St., Syracuse, N.Y., and Kinney Pharmacy, 101 Union Ave., Syracuse, N.Y., a joint venture with St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center.

Kinney Pharmacy will join KeyBank and the St. Joseph's Westside Family Health Center at Nojaim's Gifford Street location. Nojaim's opened on the Near West Side in 1919. The family owned business has been deeply committed to the revitalization of this community. Nojaim's is a major employer in the community and has received numerous accolades for its youth employment initiatives.
